Dave Lustig

Theodore Roosevelt HS – Wyandotte, MI

Head Coach - Boys and Girls

Cross Country and Track & Field

Married and father of three, Dave is as passionate about coaching as he is about a really good bowl of Macaroni and Cheese. Lustig has coached at his alma mater since 1997 where he began as Middle School Cross Country Coach. Since, he has enjoyed his time as both Head Girls Cross Country Coach (2010-present) and Head Boys Track and Field Coach (2006-present) at Roosevelt HS where he enjoyed slightly above average success in both xc and track. The goal of getting his kids to surpass his own personal accomplishments is achieved regularly by his student-athletes…without much effort at all, in fact.

Dave is owner operator of DL Pro Timing which is a self-proclaimed top 50 timing company in the state of Michigan and Roosevelt HS is a frequent host to some of the finest track and field events in Southeast Michigan. Dave will serve as President of the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association (MITCA) beginning in 2017.

Head Coach

Girls Cross Country and Track & Field

"Coach Ro" began his coaching career at his alma mater, Ann Arbor Pioneer High School, where he served as Assistant Coach overseeing the Sprints, Hurdles, and Sprint relays. Having the opportunity to learn and train under legendary Hall of Fame coaches Don Sleeman and the late Bryan Westfield, Coach Ro was able to help the Pioneer boys to great success winning 8 consecutive Regional Titles, a State Championship (2007), multiple Top 5 finishes State meet finishes, and New Balance National Championship (Shuttle Hurdle Relay, 2010).

In 2013, Coach Ro took over as the Head Coach of the Girls Program at Ann Arbor Skyline HS. In his first season, the winless program experienced great success winning their first dual meets, first invitational wins, and finished 3rd Place in the Region qualifying more athletes to the State Meet in that single season than the school previously had in all their years combined. Now entering his 5th season at the helm, the program has continued this success with multiple Top 10 State Meet finishes and a significant growth in the program. During his time at Skyline, Coach Ro has also helped his athletes reach the next level producing 12 NCAA athletes including 9 Division 1 runners and throwers.

Carl Spina

Saline HS, Saline

Boys and Girls Cross Country Head Coach

I have been a fan of cross country since the summer of 1994, when my high school coach, Mickey Coons, told me, "If you work hard, you'll get better." I have been a student of the sport since the spring of 1996, when another of my high school coaches, Jason Hunt, loaned me a book about running injuries.

My coaching and teaching careers began in Saline in 2001. For most of those years, I have been a middle school teacher. I am also an assistant track coach, responsible for our male distance athletes, and the head boys' cross country coach. In December of 2015, I was named Director of Cross Country for Saline, assuming the lead coaching position for our male and female cross country athletes.

Our cross country and track programs emphasize the importance of athlete-leadership, we value coach education through study and discussion, and we focus training and racing on development of an athlete for the highest "championship" race that he/she can reach, whether that is at the conference, regional, state, or national level.
